Frequently Asked Questions

What types of clients do you serve?

We work with high-integrity individuals and families who value top-tier expertise and care. Whether you earn $50,000 or $5,000,000, we evaluate the unique nuances that could ethically minimize the amount of income tax you owe.

My previous tax person took weeks to get back to me. How do you guarantee such an immediate response?

Clients have direct access via our encrypted WhatsApp Business Account and we endeavor to respond the same business day.

Do you do corporate returns?

We work with single-member LLCs (one shareholder), real estate partnerships (form 1065), and K1s reported on your individual 1040. We are selective about what other kinds of corporate returns we take on, and we do not do C corps. This helps us stay on top of the areas most impacting our clients.

What geographies do you serve?

As an Enrolled Agent, we can work with U.S. taxpayers in any state or the world. Our clients have lived in CA, FL, HI, ID, NV, WA and Singapore, to name a few. They have investments across the United States or overseas.

How do you serve such a global client base?

We are a 100% paperless, virtual office. All meetings are held online and clients submit materials and sign documents through our secure portal.

Can you help me with foreign tax matters?

We can help you with foreign bank account reporting (FBAR) and international investments reported on your U.S. tax return. However, we do not file returns or advise on tax laws for countries other than the United States.

Where are you actually located?

Reno, NV.

Can I meet in person if I want to?

Yes! I meet clients by appointment in Reno, NV. Also, since I travel often (especially to the SF Bay Area,) I'm happy to arrange a time to meet if I'm in your neighborhood.

What is an Enrolled Agent?

An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a tax professional authorized by the IRS to represent taxpayers before the agency in all matters, including audits, collections, and appeals. The EA designation is the highest credential the IRS awards and is recognized across all 50 states.

Key Features of an Enrolled Agent:

  • Specialized in taxation: Unlike CPAs and attorneys, who may work in various areas, EAs focus solely on tax matters.
  • IRS representation rights: EAs have unlimited practice rights, meaning they can represent individuals, businesses, and organizations in dealings with the IRS.

Since EAs are federally licensed, they can serve clients in any state or even internationally, unlike CPAs and attorneys who are licensed by individual states.

What is the difference between a CPA and EA?

EAs are specifically focused on taxation, while CPAs deal more generally with a broad range of financial matters. An EA must pass a rigorous IRS exam covering individual and business taxes, as well as tax representation. While CPAs can perform tax work, they typically also provide accounting, auditing, and financial consulting services for businesses. As such, CPAs are generalists across a broad range of areas while EAs are specifically focused on tax.

Which one is the better choice?

  • For individuals and families, EAs are often better choices because they specialize exclusively in tax. They are experts in the areas most impacting private clients.
  • A CPA is more of a one-stop shop if you need accounting, financial statement audits or business consulting, in addition to tax services. Their focus is more on businesses.

What is the investment?

All work is billed hourly and we maintain time records for all services rendered, including consultations, phone calls, correspondence, tax preparation, review and audits. In the first year, the typical fee for a somewhat complex return is $1200-$1600 because of new client interview, setup, etc. In subsequent years, the average fee is $600-$1000. Your fee will vary depending on the intricacy of your tax situation and how organized (or not) you are.
